Opening Ceremonies:

President Ray greeted us and explained why of Public Service Awards were canceled for today. Here is the reason:  After that fabulous party at Ann and Jeff Gospe’s home, two people from the party found out they had contacted Covid even though they were vaccinated. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution it was decided to cancel the meeting and put it off until next Spring 2022. An email went out to the whole club notifying all members of this unfortunate turn of events. All persons that attended the party should get themselves tested to make sure they are OK. The testing center at the Rincon Valley Unified School District on Yulupa Avenue is open 7am to 7 pm daily for testing. It is free and your results are ready in 10 minutes.

Ann Gospe led us in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way Test. Her Reflection was a quote from John Wooden.

Guests:

Manny Baldenegro, Gary Bayles and Chris Corsey

Visiting Rotarians:

Jackie and Don McMillan, Sasha Aponte, Colleen Clark

November Birthdays:

Steve Baime, Dan Balfe, Charlie Howard- Gibbon, Craig Meltzner, Diane Moresi, Julia Parranto, Cathy Vicini, and Dan Wright. Only Dan Balfe and Craig Meltzner were here today so they got much needed umbrellas! Keven Brown gave one to Sacha since she has just arrived from Guatemala….without an umbrella.

Sunshine Report:

Matt Everson’s son, Patrick, is making progress but he is still in the hospital. Matt and Sarah hope that he will be home for Thanksgiving.

Raffle:

6 marbles in the bag and $36.00 in the pot. Peter Holewinski had the number, but he did not pull the correct marble. $10.00 to him and the pot rolls over.

Announcements:

This year’s Foundation Gala is on November 7th. You should have gotten an email on October 2, 2021 (about 1:40PM) from former DG Kevin Eisenberg. It will be on Zoom from 7:00- 8:15PM.

Vickie Hardcastle also announced that November is Rotary Foundation Month. Your donations of $100 – $300 will be matched all month!

Pete Lescure is looking for a person to be a copywriter/editor for articles to go on club website. In many cases someone will write about something for the website, and we need a person to make it, better, so our website looks more professional.  If you have that talent, let him know.

Pete also wanted to let everyone know that the $10.00 technology fee that those on Zoom and non-eaters at meetings pay, will be used to buy a new computer for our meetings, so the Zoom and PowerPoint presentations work that much better.

Ann Gospe thanked everyone for coming to the party on Saturday. The club earned about $5000 from the balloon pop and the auction.  Only 9 packages of lamb and pork remain.  Call Sam McMillan if you want to know what he has and buy it.

Steve Olson wanted to remind our members about the John Brown Memorial Scholarship for veterans of the armed services.  John was a Marine. Hard to believe he has been gone 10 years.  The fund has grown to $80,000.  In that time 10 military veterans have received scholarships for Santa Rosa Junior College or a transfer student to a four-year college.  We still miss him.

Recognitions:

In honor of Veteran’s Day and John Brown (Ann Gospe too) Craig Meltzner is donating $100.00 to the John Brown Fund.

Today’s Program:  The Puerto Vallarta Sur Water Project

President Ray has always wanted to do an international project, so that is just what we are going to do.  Next year, March 23-28 approximately 20 Rotarians and guests will be going to Puerto Vallarta to work with the Puerto Vallarta Sur Rotary Club to put together buckets for those who live in the area called Colonia Magistero.  The local water from Seapal is plentiful, but those who live in this area get only untreated water.  The buckets cost $50.00.  With proper use they will last 5-10 years.  They are easy to install, maintain and clean.  Through World Community Service we are buying 40.  President Ray would like to donate another 10 and thinks we can as the Giro d’Wine Country and meat auction did better than expected.  The cost of the trip is $1650, and it covers the air fare, all-inclusive accommodations at the Fiesta American Resort, including transfers, taxes, and fees.  Space is limited and a deposit of $600.00 is due by December 13th.  Contact Trinette Neuerburg at Oakmont Travel (707)585-2201 or [email protected].  She is available Monday to Thursday from 8:30am to 2:30pm. This is our club “serving to change lives.”
