Liminal Medicine
A Mental Health Clinic
Celeste Monnette
Celeste Monnette is the Clinical Director of Liminal Medicine, a metal health clinic located in Sebastopol where they provide Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. With all the interest in this type of treatment, there is a lot of misinformation out there as well as different treatment models.
Her presentation will provide accurate information on the safety and efficacy of treatment. Her presentation will be facilitated by a physician and a licensed mental health professional. Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is a treatment model that has been talked about a lot in the press lately with breakthrough results for things like PTSD, treatment-resistant depression, suicidal, grief, and anxiety related to life-threatening medical conditions.

Opening Ceremonies:
“Welcome to the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa where to magic of Rotary is alive and we continue to do good in our world and have fun doing it!” says President Casey D’Angelo. Rose Frances led us in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way Test (of course we call it the Five-Way Test). Her Reflection was a quote from Johann Wolfgang Goethe. I did not get it written down, but here are a couple of his other famous quotes,
“The way you see people is the way you treat them, and the way you treat them is what they become.” “In the realm of ideas everything depends on enthusiasm… in the real world all rests on perseverance. “Common sense is the genius of humanity.”
She also reflected on her childhood, growing up in Chicago. Her father took her on a walk through Paul Harris’ neighborhood and pointed out his home. He said to her (and I am paraphrasing) “In that room two men met. All it took was two men with an idea.”
Visiting Rotarians:
Beth Fox from the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley and Marcus Stephens from Rotex
Guests:
Donna Koslosky was the guest of Ginny Cannon
Announcements:
Marcus Stephens announced that he has been appointed to the International Rotex Board. What is Rotex, you say? They mentor our Rotary Youth Exchange students around the world. See what happens to a young person who spends a year abroad as a Youth Exchange student? Congratulations Marcus! P.S. he is leaving to go to school in Argentina.
Sunshine Report:
As previously noted, Lisa Trepel has pancreatic cancer. A card was passed around for everyone to sign.
50/50 Drawing:
Back to 10 marbles and $24 in the pot (we think). Bill Hatcher had the right ticket, but he pulled a yellow marble per Pete Lescure. The pot rolls over!
Paul Harris Pin Awards:
We have not publicly awarded pins in a long time. Today, Andrea Geary got her +3 pin as well as Pete Lescure. Diane Moresi got her +5 pin! Let me explain for those who may not know what your editor is talking about. When you donate your first $1000 to Rotary International, you receive your first Paul Harris pin. For every $1000 after that you get a new pin. These pins have 1-5 sapphires depending on how much you have donated above that initial $1000. After +5 you start getting pins with rubies. I don’t recall what you get after +10. I think it is diamonds. So, give, give, give and you can have one too!
Recognitions:
Karen Ball needed a new roof. However, she has solar panels on her home. The solar company said they would take them off for free and put them back on if she needed a new roof in the future. Somewhere along the way this solar company “forgot” their promise and wanted to charge her $2000 to remove and put back. Karen, not willing to pay, asked Jeanne Levin to write a letter. Just hearing about “the letter” put the solar company on notice….and they took them off for free and will put them back on for free. Karen never did have to send the letter to them. Therefore, Karen is donating $100 to the Levin Family Military Scholarship Fund.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library:
Beth Fox’s club has been donating to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for a few years. So have several other area clubs. Beth would like to see if she can get all Sonoma County children enrolled in the program. I believe she said that would be about 23,000 children in Sonoma County. If I got this right, the Kiwanis clubs are covering 300 children in Cloverdale, Sonoma Valley is supporting about 20% of 1885 kids. Healdsburg has been paying for 100. Two Sebastopol is donating $2000.
Santa Rosa has 6770 children in 4 zip codes, but Rotary is not supporting any books at this time. SCARC – Sonoma County Area Rotary Clubs – is investigating this as a potential fund raiser. The Community Foundation is picking up, I think, 50% of the costs locally. What is the Dolly Parton Imagination Library? Dolly Parton started the program in 1995 in tribute to her father who was illiterate. It has since spread around the country. Children are enrolled at birth and receive one book a month in the mail through age 5. All books are personally addressed to the child. Books are chosen by Dolly Parton’s blue-ribbon committee. Books are customized and age appropriate in 6 categories. Books are available in English, Bilingual, or braille. As Beth said, Basic Education is one of Rotary’s seven areas of service.
Club Assembly:
Robert Pierce is always looking for people to be greeters and run the raffle each week. Keep signing up!
Laura Stephens says the front check in table needs more help. Sign up and you would only have to do it once a month.
Nona is looking for people to help on the social committee. Upcoming we have the meat auction at Kim Murphy’s house on September 20 and a social is planned for Kunde Winery in October.
Rich Rossi is getting started on the Giro Bello for next year. Due to the convention dates in June, the ride will be on July 12 next year. We need 60 people on the day of the event, not to mention all we have to do before the ride. The final figures are not in, but it looks like we made $52,000. Rich and Robert Pierce have committed to being co-ride directors for next year. Ray Giampaoli and Kris Anderson are committed to sponsorship. Robert Pierce will get out website updated for next year’s date.
Craig Meltzner is looking for Youth Exchange volunteers. Susan Nowacki is leaving the team.
Heather Thurber is looking for people to help on the Hands-On committee.
The International committee is looking for some new volunteers. Rick Allen and Jim Green are in charge. They evaluate projects for us to support. Did you know that a project on an Indian reservation is an international project?
P.S. Jim Green is interested in a Rotary booth at the next Women in Conversation talk at the Green Music Center on September 25, 2024 from 3:00-6:00PM. Kris Anderson said that she did a both with the East/West club a couple of years ago. Lots of booths and lots of women. Potential members?
The bulletin committee could use more writers.
