Opening The Meeting

“Welcome to the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa where we celebrate the magic of Rotary.  We are doing good in our world and having fun.” says our President Casey D’Angelo.

Kris Anderson led us in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way Test (OMG! She almost missed the Fifth Way!). Since it is Black History Month, Kris read three quotes from Booker T. Washington.

II have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed.”

“The world cares very little about what a man of woman knows; it is what the man or woman is able to do that counts.”

Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.”

Visiting Rotarians:

Tom Boylan, past district governor

Guests:

Shiroko Sokitch, MD, Anthony Lim MD, Deanie Wilmsen, Alisha Whitfield, Amanda Whitfield, and Donna Koslosky – who has turned in an application for membership! Thank you, Ginny Cannon!

Sunshine Report:

Diane Moresi’s sister has had a stroke.  Diane is off to be with her. Jeff Gospe’s mom has passed away. She has been in memory care for some time.  She is now with her beloved Stephen. Patty Kolin has had surgery on her ankle. She must keep it immobile for two weeks.

50/50 Drawing:

Matthew Henry said the pot was up to $37.00 and nine marbles in the bag. Ted Wilmsen’s daughter, Alisha Whitfield, had the winning ticket, but pulled out a yellow marble (we did not ask her to put the $10.00 into the polio pail).

February Birthdays:

Jeanne Levin….we need to recruit more February birthdays! One of our guests has a February birthday, so we sang to him too.

Happy 50th Anniversary to Ted Wilmsen:

Ted is celebrating his 50th year in Rotary.  He was with his boss on a business trip to Santa Rosa.  As they checked into the hotel, they saw a “Rotary Meets Here” plaque on the wall.  His boss told him he should join, and he did. Ted has always been the Energizer Bunny of Rotary.  He spent 21 years as a Sargent at Arms for Rotary District events.  He has been the lead for the Dictionary Project for more years than anyone can remember. He and Deanie started the Maryann Harvester Scholarship for a student with disabilities to transfer from SRJC to a four-year college (Maryann was Deanie’s sister). More recently they have started another Rotary scholarship for a student going into the health/medical field. President Casey presented Ted with a plaque to commemorate his 50 years.

Giro Bello 2025:

Rich Rossi, with help from his committee, gave us an up-to-date report on this year’s Giro Bello.  Your editor’s assumption is that the slides are on the website.  Looking for 700 riders this year and $50,000 in sponsorships.  Since we opened for registration last week, we have 39 riders and $4900 in sponsorships!

Today’s guest speaker is Dr Shiroko Sokitch, physician and owner of Heart to Heart Medical Center.

Dr Sokitch blends Chinese and Western medicine in her practice. She specializes in working with people who have mysterious symptoms to find solutions even when they do not have a diagnosis. Today she talked about the use of hyperbaric oxygen chambers in her practice. These are not the same devices that divers use to counteract the bends.  The first was built in 1662.  The mHBOT that she uses has shown many health benefits including wound healing, reduced inflammation, improved cognitive function, increased stem cell production, better tissue oxygenation, strengthened immune system response and improved cancer recovery.  Most will need between 10 and 20 sessions to get the full healing benefits.
