Our Program For October 25, 2017
SONOMA STRONG
Mayor Chris Coursey & Council Member Tom Schwedhelm
The Rotary Club of Santa Rosa is fortunate to have the Mayor of Santa Rosa and Council Member Tom Schwedhelm as our
guests on Wednesday, October 25th. They will guide us through what we know now and what is being planned to rebuild our city.
Mayor Coursey took office on December 6, 2016. He had served on the Santa Rosa city council prior to his position as mayor. His professional life was spent in journalism, most recently at The Press Democrat. He left that position in 2007 to work on the Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit, or SMART train project, and was elected to the city council in 2014.
Council Member Schwedhelm served with the Santa Rosa Police Department from 1983 until his retirement in 2013 as its Chief. He was then elected to the city council and has been appointed by the mayor to spearhead the massive recovery ahead.
Our president Julia Parranto will then unveil the plan our club will undertake to help raise funds for the recovery. Rotarians worldwide follow the motto of Service Above Self and now it will be applied as never before in our own backyard.

Several Rotarians shared their stories and feelings about the horrific firestorm that struck our community as well as our neighbors in Kenwood, Glenn Ellen, and others.
Thank You First Responders!
Marnie played her role as Francis Ford Coppola and filmed our club members offering a hearty “thank you!” for our first responders. As we all know, first responders came from all over the country (and Australia, I understand) to help fight the firestorm. For that, we are all eternally grateful!
Other Business – New Member!

A Special Message From The Rotary Club of Mwika, Tanzania
At our last meeting we had a minute of silence for those in Santa Rosa and elsewhere in California who tragically lost their lives. We hope and pray that the threat is over. Our hearts go out to you Jack, your fellow Rotarians and all who have been affected. May you find hidden inner strength and resilience to pull through and rise like phoenix from the ashes. Sending you heaps of positive energy from Mount Kilimanjaro, Young
